CANNED FOOD PRODUCTION IN BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA

Bosnia and Herzegovina's food manufacturing sector encompasses approximately 2,330 enterprises as of 2022, reflecting a stable industry landscape.
Among these, the production of canned foods is a notable segment, with several companies contributing to this market.
One such company is NaturalAro, a family-owned business that emphasizes organic production. They cultivate organic fruits and vegetables, resulting in products like their distinctive honey with aronia.
Additionally, international firms have established a presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina's food industry. Perutnina Ptuj, part of the Ukrainian MHP Group, operates production facilities in the country, focusing on poultry and meat processing.
Similarly, Swisslion Group, a Serbian multinational, has factories in Bosnia and Herzegovina producing a variety of food products, including confectionery and ready-made meals.
The country's agricultural landscape supports such production activities. The highlands are suitable for cattle breeding and complementary agricultural production, including crops for human consumption and animal feed, which can be integral to canned food production.
Despite these developments, Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains a significant trade deficit in the agri-food sector, with food imports totaling $2.5 billion and exports valued at $595 million in 2022.
This indicates potential opportunities for growth and investment in domestic canned food production to meet local demand and reduce reliance on imports.
